It's big and green, has waterfalls, lions and French acrobats. It is a hotel giant with over five thousand rooms and a huge casino floor to match. Its next door neighbours are the Luxor, the Tropicana, New York-New York and Mandalay Bay. No visit to the 'Strip' is complete without entering the world of the almighty MGM Grand!

The magnificent emerald green MGM Grand casino hotel is situated opposite New York-New York at the Tropicana end of Las Vegas Boulevard (popularly known as the 'Strip').

Originally carrying the Wizard of Oz theme, the MGM Grand Hotel began its days as the MGM-Marina Hotel. In 1993, the last pane of emerald green glass was laid in place and it was at this point that five thousand and five balloons were released into the Las Vegas warm air. Each balloon if retrieved would be found to contain a voucher for a complimentary night's stay at the MGM.

It is claimed to have the biggest casino in the whole of Clark County. Its main building has thirty floors, comprising of over five thousand hotel rooms while its towers boast over five hundred suites, a handful of 'skylofts' and villas. The MGM Grand, carving out for itself an impressive presence on the 'Strip' doesn't do small measures. The hotel offers five outdoor pools, waterfalls and rivers. Also there is the Grand Spa, CBS Television City, the Convention Center, the Garden Arena, two food courts, sixteen restaurants, no end of shops and nightclubs (including Studio 54). You will never go short of anything at the enormous green MGM Grand. And if you pop into any one of the food courts, you'll find your portions equally as generous in size!

First experiences of the MGM Grand are memorable! Leo the Lion, a giant bronze sculpture sits outside of the MGM's entrance. At 45 feet tall and weighing in at fifty tons, it is said to be the largest bronze statue in America. But nothing quite prepares you for the earth shattering lion's roar from the Lion's Habitat that greets you as you enter the MGM's casino floor. A glass lion enclosure is situated at the entrance with a transparent tunnel that allows you to see the animals up close. A total of five lions appear at the MGM in all although none of them actually live here.

If the shows are what have brought you to Vegas in the first place, then look no further for some of the best acts on the 'Strip'. Don't miss the big show currently showing at the MGM Grand is the Cirque du Soleil's 'KA'. With a number of venues within its glass walls like the Crazy Horse Paris theatre, the Hollywood theatre and the Grand Garden Arena, and so much going on, check out the resort's programme of events and entertainment at the MGM Grand website.
